The rotating helical blades push the material forward for conveyance by the screw conveyor. The forces that prevent the material from rotating together with the blades of the screw conveyor are the material's own weight and the frictional resistance of the screw conveyor casing to the material. The helical blades welded onto the rotating shaft of the screw conveyor come in various types, including solid surface, belt surface, and blade surface, depending on the material being conveyed. The helical shaft of the screw conveyor is equipped with a thrust bearing at the end of the material's movement direction to withstand the axial reaction force given by the material. If the conveyor is long, an intermediate suspension bearing should be added.
